About this program

AI Saturdays, known to its community as AI6, is a global, volunteer-led movement founded under Nurture.AI to make AI education at the quality and rigor of top universities accessible to anyone, for free. The programme runs as in-person and online Saturday study cohorts in local chapters around the world.

By 2018 the programme had already grown to more than 5,000 participants across 50+ cities, from Kathmandu and Lagos to Kharagpur, Seattle, Kuala Lumpur, Warsaw, Kigali, and Sunnyvale. Each chapter is led locally, which keeps the programme rooted in its community while sharing a common spirit and core curriculum.

Tejumade Afonja and Oluwafemi Azeez where ambassadors of the AI Saturdays programme and cofounded AI Saturdays Lagos.

Who it’s for

Everyone, by design. Past cohorts have included complete beginners alongside Kaggle masters, Fast.ai Fellows, and people holding Masters and PhDs from universities like Stanford, Harvard, and Oxford. The programme is structured so multiple skill levels can learn in parallel within the same chapter.

What learners do

The curriculum varies by chapter, but draws on openly available materials from top universities and online courses. Past chapters have used:

  • Google’s Machine Learning Crash Course

  • Caltech’s “Learning from Data” MOOC

  • Stanford and fast.ai deep learning courses

  • Implementation work on recent AI research papers A typical cycle runs for around 16 Saturdays. To earn a certificate of participation, learners complete at least one of the following:

  • An AI project, open-sourced with a README

  • A code implementation of a research paper

  • Two or more written summaries of AI research papers

Format

  • In-person Saturday sessions hosted by local chapters
  • Cohort-based learning, mixing structured study with peer discussion
  • Free and open to the public
  • Volunteer-led, with global coordination through Nurture.AI
